Afghanistan Pull Out- Is the U.S. giving up the violent northeast?

PECH VALLEY- In May of last year, military officials decided to leave the Korengal Valley in northeastern Afghanistan because they didn't thing the small gains they were making were worth the lives of U.S. troops. Now they are giving the same debate about the neighboring Pech Valley.

The soldiers stationed in the Pech were nearly as divided as everyone else. Some felt the U.S. presence in the Pech was just giving the insurgents a reason to keep on fighting and that their efforts would be better used in a more populated part of the country. Others worried the Taliban would view any withdrawal as a victory. And what about all the guys who have died here?

Under Bush this would have been in the NYT's front page. Under Obama it's the forgotten war.

So glad to have you back reporting..I commend you. My husband is there and you have interviewed him in the past. I look forward to every report and where you will be next. You show the real war and what our troops, including my husband are facing everyday. We should never forget the sacrifice, the duty and the bravery of all these men, including yourself. Thank you once again, for showing what's really going on there.
